Obituary for Calista Jane Martin

Del Norte resident Calista Jane Martin, 95, passed away October 6, 2014 at Colorado State Veterans Center in Monte Vista.
Calista Jane was born April 8, 1919 to John and Calista Trompen in Seattle, Washington. She married Charles Martin on September 27, 1945 in Burbank California and enjoyed many years of happiness on the family ranch near Del Norte until his death in 1962.
Calista Jane was a proud member of the Women’s Ambulance Defense Corps until the end of World War II. Following her husband’s death, she began working in the Rio Grande County court system where she worked for 23 years. She loved to sing in the choir and directed the children’s choir at the Pioneer United Church for many years. Calista Jane was also an artist, spending her free time painting on plates and other pieces of china. She loved her garden and all her many pets.
Calista Jane is survived by her children, Janet (Mick) Davis of Alamosa, and Jack Martin of Del Norte; her Grandchildren, Mike (Yari) Davis of Pagosa Springs and Michelle (Wilfredo) Hinestroza of Lakewood, Colorado as well as her great granddaughter Calista Jane Hinestroza.
Calista Jane was preceded in death by her parents, John and Calista, and her husband Charles.
Cremation was chosen and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the Colorado State Veterans Center, 3749 Sherman Avenue, Monte Vista, CO 81144.
