Obituary for Bruce G Jarvies

Lifetime Manassa resident Bruce G Jarvies passed away quietly at his home October 9, 2014 at the age of 66.
Bruce was born on April 29, 1948 in Alamosa, Colorado, the second son of Donald and Deaon Jarvies. On July 28, 1967, Bruce married his sweetheart Callie Ann Mortensen in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bruce was active in the church and served in many leadership positions including Bishop of the Manassa Second Ward. Three of Bruce’s grandsons served as full-time missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and another grandson is currently serving in the Peru, Lima Mission.
Bruce was also an active member of the Manassa community, serving as a Town Board Member and Mayor for many years. He owned and operated Donald’s Service Station in Manassa for over 30 years. Bruce had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother Deaon Jarvies of Salt Lake City, UT; his wife Ann Jarvies of Manassa; his children Kirk (Shannon) Jarvies of Manassa, Clinton Jarvies of Alamosa, Mitchell (Kristi) Jarvies of Manassa, Natalie (Jim) Paine of Antonito, Callie (Dave) Jensen of Draper, UT, Rachel (Glenn) Barr of Antonito, Jessie (Tanner) Bagwell of Manassa, Andrew (Amber) Jarvies of Antonito, April (Adam) Robins of Antonito, Donald (Ashley) Jarvies of Manassa; as well as 50 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Madelyn (Mark) Thomas, Julie Jarvies, Linda (Cecil) Ash, Greg (Kellie) Jarvies, Brad Jarvies, Allison (Chris) Peterson and Kelly (Leslie) Jarvies.
His father Donald preceded him in death in 2006.
A visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Manassa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 14th also at the Manassa Stake Center. Interment will follow services in the Manassa Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Manassa Second Ward Mission Fund and may be made in care of Rogers Family Mortuary, 205 State Ave., Alamosa, CO 81101.
