Obituary for Arthur William "A.W." Rogers

Longtime Romeo resident and farmer, Arthur William “A.W.” Rogers, 96, passed away peacefully at his home in Romeo surrounded by his loving family.
Arthur was born in Manassa, Colorado on December 5, 1918 to Arthur and Mary Christensen Rogers. He married Margaret Garland on December 27, 1937 in Nortonville and they enjoyed 75 years together until her death in 2012.
Arthur was drafted in the United States Army and served as an Automotive Mechanic in the Southern Philippines and Luzon. Following his return from the Army, he operated with his wife Margaret, the Rogers Potato Company and their family farm. He enjoyed taking gambling trips to New Mexico Casinos, and loved being around people. In his younger years he played a trumpet in the Columbine Orchestra and learned to play the piano by ear. He also enjoyed dancing and music. One of his greatest memories where those spent with his family at their mountain cabin.
Arthur served as President for the La Jara CO-OP, the La Jara Rotary Club, the Romero Ditch Company and also served as President of the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his children Robert (Jean) Rogers of Romeo, Mary (Jim) Sowards of Manassa, Clark (Trudy) Rogers of Alamosa and Kenneth (Natalie) Rogers of Romeo; his brothers Chris (Jeanine) Rogers of Grand Junction, Lynn Rogers of Seattle, Washington; as well as twenty-three grandchildren, eighty-five great-grandchildren and twenty-four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Arthur is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers Albert Rogers, Karl Rogers, Richard Rogers, his grandchildren infant Robert William Rogers, Jr, Steven S. Sowards, his great-grandsons Taggert Mortensen and Neeko Sowards.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21st and Monday, December 22nd from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday morning at the Manassa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment with military honors will follow services in the Manassa Cemetery.
