Obituary for Albert Frank "Al" King

Saguache resident Albert "Al" Frank King, 72, passed away December 14, 2013 at the Avamere Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Thornton, Colorado.
Al was born in Denver, Colorado the son of Frank Albert King and Helen Ulibarri King. He married Carolina “Tina” Lujan in 1972 and they were married 36 years until her passing in 2008.
Al served as the Sheriff in Saguache County for many years. During his time as Sheriff he started Sharing Christmas in Saguache County. This program gathered donations of food and gifts for locals who didn’t have the means to afford them. He was very proud of this program and all the good that it did for the people.
Al in his early years was a dance instructor for American Dance Studios. This is where he met his wife Tina. Al enjoyed fishing and listening to the oldies in his spare time. His favorite foods were homemade green chile and Tamales. More than anything he enjoyed and cherished the time spent with his family.
Al is survived by his children Sean (Audra) King of Alamosa, Eric King of Lakewood, CO and Frank (Gina) King of Denver; his grandchildren Kailynn, KiyAnna and Eriq King and Frank’s children and grandchildren; his sisters Rebecca Wren of Arvada, LaVerne Romo of Arvada and brother Wayne King of Westminster, CO; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
His father preceded him in death in WWII, his mother in 2009, his wife in 2008 and his son Michael King in 2011.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Pipkin Avenue Baptist Church in Saguache. Interment will follow services in the Hillside Cemetery in Saguache. Due to the cold weather, in lieu of live flowers, contributions are suggested to the Al King Memorial Fund at the First Southwest Bank or may be sent to the funeral home office.
