Obituary for Albert Alvin Colville

Alamosa – Lifetime Del Norte resident Albert Alvin Colville, 83, passed away on August 28, 2014 at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.
Alvin was born on October 5, 1930 to Albert and Lucy Ann Colville in Del Norte, Colorado. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force. Following his time in the military he attended college in Fort Louis and received his bachelor’s degree. After college, he returned to the family ranch. Alvin was involved in the Colorado Cattleman’s Association; National Ski Patrol; 4-H leader; National Rifle Association; gun safety instructor and a troop leader for the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed mountain climbing. He climbed all of Colorado’s 14’ers. He wrote an editorial for the Creede, South Fork and Del Norte papers, “Al Hoots”. Additionally, he authored 4 books. He enjoyed woodworking and cross country skiing as well as participating in the Senior Olympics in Montrose and medaling in archery.
He is survived by his children; David Michael Colville of Houston, Missouri; Crystal Lynn Spratt of Humble, Texas and Shelonie Fawn Johnson of Tucson, Arizona as well as 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and step children; Lynnea Cook, David McCallister and Carol McCallister.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara Colville.
Cremation was selected and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday September 6, 2014 at the Colville Ranch in Del Norte.
