Obituary for AJ Hall
Longtime Alamosa resident AJ Hall, 93, passed away peacefully March 15, 2014 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa.
AJ was born in Paint Rock, Texas the loving son of AJ Hall, Sr. and Joella Boswell Hall. He attended and graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, but shortly after graduating, enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Captain during World War II. He traveled the world with the military and met his wife, Virginia R. McIntosh who was also serving in the Army. They were united in marriage in Belgium in 1945. Virginia preceded AJ in death in 1990.
AJ worked for more than 30 years as the Physical Plant Director at Adams State College, retiring in 1982.
AJ’s passion was fishing. He spent countless hours in the mountains fishing and traveled to Alaska and many other places to fish. He loved catching king salmon on his fly rod. Autumn was his favorite time of year to be in the mountains because of the changing colors.
In his earlier years, AJ liked to play golf. He volunteered on many occasion with the Boy Scouts, helping out wherever needed. He enjoyed keeping his yard well manicured and took pride in his grass and flowers.
AJ is survived by his daughter Jo Ann (Dallas) Ward of South Fork; his sister Paudene (Joe) Alexander of San Angelo, TX; his nieces Jo Royce, Donna and Colleen; his great-nieces and nephews: Julie (Erik), James (Mandy) and Joel (Aprill); as well as his brother–in-law Glen Wadleigh; and his sisters-in-law Lee Hanson and Joan (Marvin) McConoughey.
His parents and his wife preceded him in death.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Alamosa Presbyterian Church. Interment with military honors will follow services in the Homelake Veterans Cemetery at Homelake. Contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in his memory and may be made at www.calfarley.org or through the funeral home office.
