Obituary for Steven Byrl Townsend

Former valley resident Steven Byrl Townsend, 62, passed away on December 23, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Steve was born on February 25, 1952 in Alamosa, Colorado to Byrl and Etta Townsend. Steve graduated from Alamosa high school in 1970 and went on to attend Adams State College on a music scholarship. He spent many years working with City Market, first as a Deli Manager, then as a Regional Manager. Following his retirement, he was a tile salesman and a newspaper man for the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post. Steve was an avid Broncos fan, an amateur professional golfer and bowler; he loved to golf, but above all loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons Mike Townsend of Findlay, Ohio, and Chris (Mary) Townsend of Pickering, Missouri, his grandchildren, Austin Townsend of Broomfield, Colorado, Madison Townsend of Fort Lupton, Colorado, Charmayne, Justin, and Paul Townsend of Dayton, Ohio Chase and Megan Boatright of Philadelphia, Mississippi, his mother Etta Townsend of Alamosa, his siblings, Susan Distel of Denver, Stanley Townsend of Monte Vista and Stacy Vigil of Center, his former wife Dawn Townsend of Findlay, Ohio as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Byrl, his daughter Cherri Boatright and his former wife Paula Lindsay.
Cremation was selected and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday December 27, 2014 at the Alamosa Elks Lodge. Contributions are suggested to Rogers Family Mortuary, to assist the family with expenses.
