Alamosa resident Gladys McGuffin, 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Alamosa on August 3, 2016 under hospice care.

Gladys was born on May 11, 1938 in Alamosa, Colorado, one of nine children to Glen Nephi Hostetter and Maude Leon McDaniel. She married James Cecil McGuffin at her family home in La Jara in June of 1973. They enjoyed 43 years together.

Gladys was a homemaker and took pride in keeping her home in great shape. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and cleaning and in her spare time liked to decorate and work with crafts, especially macramé. Gladys was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved reading scriptures. She held many different callings within the church including Relief Society, Young Women’s as well as others.

She is survived by her husband Cecil McGuffin of Alamosa; her daughters Kimberley Sue (Jairo) Rios of Surprise, AZ and Christy (Brian) Cooper of Alamosa; her grandchildren McKenzie Rios, Shelby Rios, Cody Cooper, Kyle Cooper, Caleb Cooper and Colton Cooper; her brothers and sisters: Margaret Jackson of Arizona, Donna Mortensen of Alamosa, CO, Harvey (Eleanor) Hostetter of Santa Fe, NM and Edith (Perry) Ganus of Bountiful, Ut; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters: Warren Hostetter, Mary Leon Johnson, Doris Mae Mortensen and infant sister Luella, her brothers-in-law Ralph Mortensen and Leland Jackson.

A Visitation will be held from 10:00-10:45 am Monday, August 8, 2016 in the Relief Society Room at the Alamosa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 927 Weber Dr., in Alamosa. A funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Monday also at the Alamosa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow services in the Sanford Cemetery. Contributions are suggested in her memory to the Alamosa Fourth Ward Missionary Fund, in care of the church offices.
