Obituary for Verna Faye Felmlee

Verna Faye Felmlee
Folsom, CA – Verna Faye Felmlee was born on August 26, 1942, on her father’s 19th birthday. He always said they grew up together. Her parents were Frank J. Crown and Edra Helmick Crown. She was born in Los Angeles, California, quite by accident. Her father was drafted in the Second World War and had to report in Los Angeles. When he was found to be deaf, he wasn’t allowed to serve. But, they didn’t have the money to get back home so Verna could be born in the San Luis Valley. However, she claimed to be a native of the Valley and attended school in Center.

Verna worked many jobs, but her favorite job was as a processing agent in insurance. She started out at Traveler’s in Salt Lake City, Utah and worked at CIA and Dell’s Insurance in Alamosa. She was a member of the Mosca United Methodist Church and Alamosa Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her son Nathan Phillips (John Besser), daughter, Wende Phillips (Netahualcoyotyl Avelar) and son Benjamin (Amity) Nicholson, step-sons, Kenny Felmlee, Jr. (Bill Wendt), Scot (DonaLu) Felmlee, Jeff (Jeanie) Felmlee and Jim (Leanna) Felmlee, also surviving are fifteen grandchildren; Jordan, Jasper and Jericho Nicholson, Mercades, Andrew and Caleb Gregory, Jamie, Terrin, Kenton, Chase, Brandon, Caleb, Constance, Kendra and Ella Felmlee as well as one brother, Rick (Sheri) Crown and two sisters, Ellen (John) Moser and Becky (Randal) Wilson and their families, also by step-sisters and a step-brother Linda Schamadeke, Lana Reed, Vicky Glover and Randy Glover.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother Leona Crown, her husband Kenny and two infant children, Karl James and Amy Lou Phillips.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday August 1, 2016 with a Memorial Service following at the Mosca United Methodist Church at 12:00 p.m.
