Veta was born in Las Animas, Colorado on February 23, 1931, the daughter of Willie Jones and Viola Mae Andregg Jones. She married William LeRoy Baumfalk on January 19, 1950 in Aztec, New Mexico and they enjoyed 47 years until his death in 1997.
Veta grew up in the Delta, Colorado area. After her husband graduated from college, they moved their family to Moffat, Colorado where Veta worked as a Cook in the Moffat Schools and for the Baca Grande, until it closed. She then moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming, where she managed an apartment complex until her retirement. After her husband passed away Veta returned to Colorado, she so she could be closer to her children.
She was a lifetime member of the Rebekah Lodge in various places, and held many positions in the organization throughout the years. She was also a life member of the Tri-County Senior Citizens in Monte Vista. She was proud of reaching her goal in TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), and being part of the Ladies Aide Society in Moffat, CO.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, embroidering, making embroidered quilts for all her family members, as well as her adult coloring books, and Veta was an avid reader. As a young girl, she began collecting salt and pepper shakers, and this grew to over 3000 salt and pepper shaker sets. She even purchased her last set only a few weeks prior to her death. Another of her favorite past time activities was travelling.
She is survived by her children V. Marlene (Frank) Vigil of San Luis, CO, Mary Baumfalk of Monte Vista, CO, Richard (Sedona) Baumfalk of Lost Lakes, AK, and Marjorie Johnson of Hesperus, CO; as well as her grandchildren James, Jerry, Jodie, Bill, Lorri, Forrest, Tallen, Grady, Claire, Willow, and Rome; her great grandchildren Isabella, Gabriella, Braden, Morgan, Riley, Taylor, Layton, Lincoln, Mona, and Oliver; one step-grandchild Cheyenne, and one great-great-step-grandchild Alice.
