Theresa Jacqueline Chavez, 69, of Blanca, passed away on March 31, 2026, in Pueblo. She was born on July 25, 1956, in Alamosa, Colorado, to Ralph and Genevive (Garcia) Maestas.
Theresa grew up on a farm in San Pablo, where she learned the values of hard work, family, and faith that guided her throughout her life. She was a Catholic and carried her beliefs with quiet strength and grace. Theresa earned her LPN degree and later completed an associate degree, reflecting her dedication to learning and to serving others. She also found her calling as an early childhood teacher, a role she loved deeply. Through her patience, kindness, and natural ability to connect with children, she enriched the lives of many young people and made a lasting impact on her community.
Theresa met and married the love of her life, Charles Chavez, and together they built a life centered on family, love, and commitment. Theresa enjoyed going with her husband to the farm. There she enjoyed having family gatherings, where her warmth and loving spirit could be felt. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.
Theresa had a love of growing beautiful flower gardens for her flowers. She also enjoyed cooking her delicious red and green chili, which was enjoyed by many who were fortunate enough to share a meal with her. Her generosity, selflessness, and loving nature left a meaningful legacy in the hearts of those who knew her.
Theresa is survived by her husband, Charles Chavez of Blanca; her daughter, Desiree (John) Naranjo of Monte Vista; her son, Warren Chavez of Monte Vista; her brothers, Ralph Jr. (Rae Jean) Maestas and Walter (Debbie) Chavez ; her sisters, Phyllus Maestas, and Kristi (Marco) Celada, Sally (the late Dennis) Lopez, and her grandsons, Jonathan Naranjo, Ryland Naranjo, Kayden Chavez, Mauricio Chavez, Aven Naranjo, and Dominic Chavez. She is also survived by multiple nephews, nieces, and cousins who will remember her with love and gratitude.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her son, Curtis (Freddi Jo) Chavez. Theresa will be remembered as a loving, generous, and selfless woman whose life was defined by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched. She will be missed by all.
A recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, April 10, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will take place at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow in the San Isidro Cemetery. Rogers Family Mortuary is in care of arrangements.
