Longtime Alamosa resident Shirley Cavaliere Joseph, 85, died July 10, 2023 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, Colorado.

Shirley was born in Alamosa, Colorado on June 29, 1938 to George Burris and Helen White.

Shirley was a member of the Alamosa Elks Lodge, and was also a Girl scout in her younger years. She enjoyed spending her free time scrapbooking, and painting carpentry, coloring and reading a good book. She liked working on her yard and flowers. Shirley enjoyed baking, especially sweet treats for her family. She also liked to watch CNN.

She is survived by her daughter Suzan Gonzales of Alamosa, her grandchildren JJ (Monica Ortega) Gonzales of Farmington N.M., Natalie (Lawrence) Mondragon of Alamosa, her great grandchildren Greyson Hirz, Sophia Mondragon, baby boy Mondragon expected later this year, her sister Phyillis Worden of Cheyenne WY, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Kenneth Burris and Samuel Burris both of Alamosa, her first husband Jim Cavaliere, and her second husband Jameel Joseph.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, both at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow the service in the Alamosa Cemetery.
