Obituary

Zapata resident Robert L. Schultz, 75, passed away August 15, 2023 at the San Luis Valley Medical Center in Alamosa Colorado.

Robert was born in Montana on January 8, 1948 to Leon and Maureen Schultz.

Robert worked for the State of Colorado as the Water Commissioner for over 15 years, and he truly loved his job. He was also a park ranger at Yellowstone National Park, that's where he met the love of his life Kathleen (Downey) Schultz who was also a park ranger and they were married just out of the park at the Soldiers Chapel on June 10, 1970. They were married 53 wonderful years. Robert also worked as a ranger at the Sand Dunes National Park.

Robert loved to spend time with his family. He loved to talk about water. Robert was a hard worker and dedicated much of his life to work.

Robert is survived by his wife Kathleen; his sons Terek (Tammy) Schultz of Ashville, OH, and Keith (Tanya) Schultz of Mosca, CO; Seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert is preceded in death by both his father Leon Schultz, his mother Maureen Schultz, his father-in-law Charles Downy, and his mother-in-law Dora Downey.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
