Ralph Martinez, Jr., a man of wisdom and remarkable handiness, left this world surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2025. Born in the peaceful town of Gunnison, Colorado, on December 4, 1947, Ralph was known for his abundant love for his family, his brilliant craftsmanship, and his impactful career.

In his 77 years of a life well-lived, Ralph left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. He was the beloved husband of Janeen Martinez of Monte Vista, Colorado, with whom he built a loving and nurturing home. A devoted father, his legacy lives on through his children Sondra (Sage) David of Grand Junction, CO, Alena (Randy) Haskell of Lake City, CO, Tammy Martinez of Pueblo, CO, Bill Quintana of Ft. Garland, CO, Matthew (Mandi) Quintana of Bayfield, CO, and Mike (Elizabeth) Quintana of Monte Vista, CO. His spark of joy and pride, his grandchildren Kylee, Kaleb, Natasha, Jonathan, Maeli, Maxden, Abigail, Amada and Ian, as well as his great-granddaughter Aubrey, will treasure the precious moments and lessons learned from him.

Ralph was the cherished brother to Patty Pfifer of Tennessee, Pansy Shaffer of Loveland, CO, and Harvey (Jan) Martinez of Montrose, CO. They, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, will lovingly remember Ralph for his kindness, guidance, and warm laughter. His parents, Ralph Martinez, Sr., and Ida Mae Barnes Martinez, his twin infant sisters, and his in laws, Bill and Jayne McNeil, preceded him in death, and one can envision joyful reunions on golden streets.

In his youth, Ralph spent his summers laying foundations with his father in the town of Crested Butte and on Mount Crested Butte. The summers were not all work, as he loved the icy waters of Lake Irwin and terrorizing Elk Avenue.

Ralph proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. It was here that he was exposed to Agent Orange, the chemical agent that would steal his health decades later.

Professionally, Ralph was unwaveringly dedicated, having worked as a Supervisor for the Colorado Department of Transportation for 32 years before transitioning to Southway Construction in Alamosa as a Safety Officer, where he continued to impact lives for 22 additional years until his retirement. His colleagues admired his dedication to safety and his commitment to excellence.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Ralph was the consummate craftsman. His talent as a carpenter was second to none. He took great pride in remodeling his house and completing projects that would stand as testament to his handiwork. His early years were filled with adventure as he enjoyed motorcycle rides with his wife, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Above all, Ralph's grandchildren were his heart and soul; every action, every project, was imbued with his love for them.

At his request, private family services will be held. Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista is in care of the arrangements.
