Michelle “Shelly” Smith, 68, passed away on August 29, 2026. She was born on March 15, 1958, in Alamosa, Colorado, and was a longtime resident of Alamosa, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona.

An Alamosa High School 1976 graduate, Shelly was an excellent student, an accomplished gymnast, and a vivacious varsity basketball cheerleader. She was well loved and respected by everyone on campus. After high school, Shelly worked for many years as a legal administrative assistant. She was known for her caring heart and generous spirit, often serving as a caretaker for members of her family and her friends.

Shelly had a love for painting and was a talented artist. She also had a special love for her dogs, who brought her great joy. One of the special bonds she cherished was being a twin to her brother, Mark, with whom she shared a lifelong connection and countless memories.

Shelly is survived by her sister, Vianne (Richard) Coleman; her twin brother, Mark (Markie) Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice Weir Smith and Sylvia Jean Hancock.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of SLV Health for the amazing care and compassion they provided to Shelly.
