Mike Maez, age 53, passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1973, and was a longtime resident of La Jara, Colorado.
Mike was a graduate of Centauri High School. He worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) as a JOA snowplow operator. Mike was a hardworking man who took pride in his work and enjoyed staying busy.
Mike belonged to the Crown and Brown Water Revival Club, where his love of whiskey and good times with friends was well known. His hobbies and interests included spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, riding his Harley-Davidson, grilling, collecting whiskey, and spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed chainsaw races and competing in Logger Days.
Mike loved the outdoors, motorcycles, hard work, and most of all, the time he spent with the people he cared about. He leaves behind many wonderful memories that will be cherished by his family and friends for years to come.
Mike is survived by his sons, Davian Cervantez and Dandre Maez; his daughter, Matilde (Steven) Gonzales; and his grandson, Dallas Gonzales.
He is also survived by his father, Lorenzo (Susana) Maez Jr.; his brothers, CJ (Jennifer) Maez, Lorenzo Maez III, and Julian Maez; his niece, Clarissa Sisneros; and his nephews, Devin Maez, Eric Maez, and Devin Armenta.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Dolores Maez; his grandmother, Priscilla Maez; his grandfather, Lorenzo Maez Sr.; and his daughter, Marissa Cervantez.
Mike will be deeply missed by his family, friends, coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and countless memories shared by those who loved him.
A visitation for Mike will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa.
A rosary will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 6:30 to 7:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Capulin, Colorado.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Capulin, Colorado. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at the Capulin Cemetery.
A reception for family and friends will be held at the Sanford Community Center following the services.
