Mateo Pedro
Baltazar-Francisco
August 2, 1989 – August 29, 2025
Mateo Pedro Baltazar Francisco, known lovingly as Mateo, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, in Alamosa, Colorado. Born on August 3, 1989, in Santa Eulalia, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, Mateo's gentle spirit and friendly nature touched the lives of all who knew him.
Mateo's devotion to his family was a pillar of his life. He is survived by his parents, Pedro Baltazar Pedro and Maria Francisco Lucas, who reside in the family home in Alamosa. His sister, Juana (and husband Tomas Juan) Baltazar Francisco of Georgia, will cherish his memory, as will his beloved nieces and nephew: Jesus Manual, Arely Manual, and Adiel Manuel. His grandparents, Maria Lucas of Alamosa and Mateo Baltazar of Guatemala, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of extended family and friends, will miss Mateo greatly. His paternal grandparent Juana Pedro and maternal grandparent Juan Francisco precede him in death.
Throughout his life, Mateo showed an admirable work ethic, contributing many years as a laborer in a potato warehouse, and most recently, serving the medical and legal community as a valued interpreter. His work bridged cultures and facilitated understanding, a testament to his compassionate heart.
A man of Christian faith, Mateo lived his beliefs through his actions, exuding kindness and patience in all things. Friends and family often described him as kind, friendly, and gentle—a true embodiment of these virtues.
Mateo's interests were as rich as his personality. He was an outdoorsman who relished fishing trips amidst nature's tranquility. His artistic talent blossomed through drawing, where he captured the essence of his serene world. A family-oriented man, Mateo cherished every moment spent with relatives, and he naturally became the poetic voice during gatherings, often sharing beautiful, heartfelt words.
Welcoming to everyone, he was both kindhearted and soulfully present, creating an atmosphere where all felt at home. Mateo also had a special place in his heart for his cherished cats and dogs, with whom he shared his life's journey.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery. A meal will follow services at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Hall.
