Obituary

Alamosa resident Mary Ann Hof, 84, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025. Born on January 8, 1941, in New Castle, Colorado, to Paul Akin and Gladyce Esther (Johnson) Burrell, Mary Ann cultivated a life rich in family, work, and community service.

She navigated her earthly journey with unwavering love and devotion, which shone brightly through her deep connections with her family. She was a cherished sister to Gladyce Oma (David Michael) Janky. Loving mother to her children, Kevin Ray Hof, Galen Bruce (the late Susan Kay) Hof, and Michelle Ann (Bryce Edward) Hiigel. Her grandchildren, Arah Louize Hof, Samuel Martin Dean Hof, Michael Dean (Chelsea Rae) Hof, and Cole Clarence (Kaylee Jean Rasmussen) Hiigel, along with great-grandchildren Sutton Rae Niedens, continue to bloom in the garden of her nurturing spirit. The family tree she so lovingly tended also extends to her nieces and nephews, Dawn Marie Ross, Nicole Renee (Timothy Lee Burrell) Hetz-Burrell, Brian James (Lauren Marie Cerato) Janky, Catherine Elizabeth Janky, and her great-nieces and nephews, Alexander John Ross, Sedona Ann Ross, Zaiden Levi Burrell, Brody Lee Burrell, and Aidan Michael Janky.

She was preceded in death by her parents ,her brother and spouse Gene Arthur(PatriciaAnn(Kostel)Burrell), brother Fred Lewis Burrell, her son Gerald Dean Hof, nephews Paul Anthony Burrell and Timothy Lee Burrell. They have now welcomed her with open arms in the gentle embrace of eternity.

Mary Ann loved traveling and camping with the kids sharing her experiences throughout all of Colorado. She enjoyed sharing the travels of her father and his construction of various roadways across the state.

Mary Ann loved bowling. She participated for many years in Alamosa and also competed in tournaments around the United States. Mary Ann enjoyed Alamosa sports competing in softball leagues and then supporting the Alamosa softball league as lead score keeper. She also refereed high school volleyball throughout the San Luis Valley as part of Parks and Recreation department

Mary Ann's artistic talents were widely recognized, particularly her exquisite Christmas wreaths, which adorned many homes in the San Luis Valley during the holiday seasons. Each creation was a testament to her artistry and her ability to spread joy throughout her cherished valley.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Mary Ann Hof will be deeply missed, but her radiant spirit will continue to warm the lives of those she touched.
