Longtime Center resident Mary M. Atencio, 89, passed away August 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa Colorado.

Mary was born in Center Colorado on February 7, 1934 to Melecio Atencio and Adela DeHerrera Atencio.

Mary loved being surrounded by family. She always enjoyed and looked forward to special events. Mary enjoyed eating good food, especially sweets. She liked listening to Spanish music. Mary enjoyed walking around visiting family and friends. Everyone who knew her knew that she loved her "happy baby"! Mary was also a member of the Sacred Heart Carol in Center.

Mary is survived by her daughter Della (Daniel) Duran of Center Colorado; her grandchildren Adrian (Tanya) Duran of Center Colorado, Adam (Adrianna Ortega) Duran of Alamosa, Bonnie (Jerry) Lujan of Center Colorado; her great-grandchildren Jeremy, Tyler, Derek, Mason, Alexis, Aniyah, Alyssa, Jordan, Alyciana, Treycin and Jayden; her great-great-grandchildren Liam and Grayson; her special niece Leeann (Julian), special nephew Damian and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents; and all of her siblings Perfelia Trujillo, Gloria Trujillo, Rudy Atencio, Gerald Atencio, Bob Atencio, Modesto Atencio, Tony Atencio, and Lorenzo Atencio.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday August 16, 2023, a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023, both at the St. Francis Jerome Catholic Church in Center Colorado. Interment will follow the service in the Carnero Creek Catholic Cemetery in La Garita Colorado.

Mary was very loved and will be missed greatly!
