Obituary

Marilyn June Van Treese, 92, passed away on September 9, 2025, in Monte Vista, Colorado. Born on May 16, 1933, in Arriba, Colorado, to Guy and Anna Pickett, Marilyn's life was a tapestry of dedication to her family, her faith, and the simple joys that knit the fabric of a life well-lived.

Marilyn graduated from Monte Vista High School, where she even drove the school bus as a senior. She married her beloved Earl Van Treese, and together they embarked on a 66-year journey filled with love, exploration, and the shared pleasure of the great outdoors. Marilyn's role as a homemaker was the cornerstone of her life, providing a warm and nurturing environment for her children, Linda (John) McCormick of Monte Vista, Steven (Karla) Van Treese of Monte Vista, and Gloria (Lonell) Crowther of La Jara, and her late son Charlie Van Treese.

Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her stories and the lessons of her generous heart. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, her son Charlie, her siblings Robert, Karel, and Elaine, and her parents, including her parents-in-law.

Marilyn's Christian faith was a guiding light throughout her life, providing her with strength and comfort. Her hands were rarely still, as she was an accomplished quilter and seamstress, often found sewing or tending to her once vast garden. Marilyn's culinary skills were legendary, especially when it came to cooking big meals that brought everyone together around the table.

Adventure was a constant in Marilyn's life, from riding her 4-wheeler up until her final days to the unique experiences she and Earl shared, such as helicopter camping—a testament to their adventurous spirits. They proudly visited almost all 50 states, creating memories that are now cherished stories among their family and friends. She was a devoted member of the Stanley Extension Club.

Marilyn's life was deeply rooted in the Bowen community, where she grew up. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her to embrace life with the same vigor and passion that she did. Marilyn June Van Treese's journey on earth has ended, but her legacy of love, family, and adventure will endure forever in the hearts of those she touched.
