Maria Delma Ramirez, 81, a longtime resident of Capulin, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026. She was born on January 13, 1945, to the late Esquipula Maestas and Domitila Martinez.
Delma earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Denver and dedicated her life to educating others as a teacher. Following her career in education, she went on to serve as the Director of Transcribe for La Jara Hospital, where she continued to make a positive impact through her dedication and compassion.
A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin, Delma’s faith was the foundation of her life. She found joy in playing bingo, trying her luck with scratch tickets, and completing crossword puzzles. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets. Delma loved spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking, and her family fondly remembers that she made the very best cookies. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, her strong faith, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. Above all else, Delma cherished her family.
Delma is survived by her son, Arthur (Annie) Ramirez; her son, Francisco “Ponch” Ramirez; her grandchildren, Jessey “Jaymes” Sandoval, Isaiah Sandoval, Brianna Ramirez, Arthur “AJ” Ramirez, Francisco Ramirez Jr., Arianna Ramirez, Leah Quintana, Ciarra Rousey, and Shawntae Rousey; and her great-grandchildren, Jayla Marie Espinoza, Uriah Zane Espinoza, Indica Sandoval, and Ember Sandoval.
Delma was preceded in death by her parents, Esquipula Maestas and Domitila Martinez; her siblings, Lucy Ortiz, Arthur Maestas, Judy Vargas, and Lawrence Maestas; her nephew, Frank Ortiz; her niece, Mary Quintana; and her nephew, Christopher Vargas.
A Rosary will be recited on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin, Colorado. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow the service at Capulin Cemetery.
Delma’s kindness, unwavering faith, laughter, and deep love for her family will be treasured always by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
