Marcella Maria Martinez passed away at the age of 94 on December 26, 2025 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.
Marcella's true passion was teaching children. She worked at Head Start as a teacher's assistant and then a teacher beginning 1968. She also taught religious classes out of her house. She was a member of the Legion of Mary. She loved cooking, baking, making chokecherry jelly and dancing. The most important thing to her was her family.
She is survived by her husband Delfino Martinez, her children Gerri (Vito) Trujillo of Lakewood, John (JoAnne) Valdez of Monte Vista, and Don (Jo) Valdez of Monte Vista. Her Grandchildren, Angelo Trujillo, Raenell Rodriguez, Johnny Valdez (Vicky), Sabrina (Brian) Golding, Daniel Valdez, Dalton Quintana, Kyle Pauley, Andrew Pauley (Angela) and Jenna Pauley. Her Great Grandchildren Angelo Rodriguez, Sahara Rodriguez, Aries Valdez, Evie Valdez, Alexandra (Jacob) Plumley, Lane Golding, Jayce Pauley, Alijandra Kelley (Duel), Alycia Dupont, Anthony Dupont, Hayden Pauley, Madison Pauley, Daymion Parra. And a Great Great Grandson Isaiah Kelley; as well as a Sister Evelyn Wright of Monte Vista and Susan Lujan of Brighton. Her dear
friend the mother of her grandchildren, Arlene Valdez.
Marcella is preceded in death by her parents Eli and Isabel Lujan, her infant son Paul Anthony Valdez, grandson Chris Trujillo, her brother Eugene Lujan and her sister Grace Vinceguerra.
As per her wishes cremation was chosen, a rosary and a mass will be held at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Monte Vista on Friday, January 9, 2025. The Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 9:30 am, with the Memorial Mass at 10:15 am, burial will follow the mass in the Monte Vista Cemetery.
