Obituary

Lois Marie Lamb, 94, passed away on April 30, 2025, enveloped in the peace of The Legacy Assisted Living Center in Monte Vista, Colorado. Born on July 16, 1930, in Gunnison, Colorado, Lois's life was characterized by her selfless nature, generosity, and a friendly demeanor that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Lois graduated from Western State College, a reflection of her lifelong love for learning and personal growth. It was this love that she and her late husband, Walter Hammond Lamb, channeled into businesses that became staples of the San Luis Valley community. Together, they operated the A&W Root Beer Stand in Monte Vista, delighted patrons with scrumptious meals at "The Pancake Inn," and beautified flowers with "Casa del Flores," all in Del Norte, Colorado.

The bonds of family were deeply meaningful to Lois. She is survived by her children, Michael Eugene Lamb with wife Cindy Butler Lamb of Boone, North Carolina, and Kay Ellen O'Connell with husband Kevin Edward O'Connell of Pine, Colorado. Her legacy continues to thrive through her adored grandchildren Devon Brooke Lamb, Jordan Michael Lamb with wife Kaytlyn, and Lauren Danielle Ferchau with husband Derek William, and through the youthful joys of her great-grandsons, Derek Alfred Ferchau and Zac Walter Ferchau. Lois was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Harvey Roman Stanley and Mable Leanna Evans, her loving husband Walter, and her cherished siblings, Sonny Stanley, Betty Ellen Cavanaugh, and Anna Mae Brown.

An avid fly fisherwoman, Lois instilled in her grandchildren not only the skill of fly fishing but also a love for the natural serenity that surrounds this pastime. Her faith was an instrumental part of her life, with over seventy years of membership at Monte Vista Presbyterian Church. Community engagement complemented her faith as she took joy in the camaraderie of the Bridge, Pinnocle, and Clio card playing clubs in Del Norte.

Lois and her husband, Walter, shared a passion for travel, having explored fourteen different countries, each adventure bringing them closer and enriching their view of the world. Her talents were manifold; as a skilled woodworker, she crafted many cherished items for her family, weaving her love into each piece.

Lois's love for the arts was evident in her enjoyment of operas, her attendance at plays at the Creede Repertory Theatre, and her cultural enrichment gained from reading non-fiction and indulging in both reading and writing poetry. Lois's multifaceted interests were a testament to her expansive and inclusive embrace of life.

Indeed, to know Lois was to know the best of motherhood and grandmotherhood. Her absence creates a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of being a part of her life.

Cremation was chosen and private family services will be held. Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista is in care of the arrangements. To leave online words of comfort, remembrances, and tributes for Lois' family, please visit www.RogersFunerals.com
