Obituary

Linwood Dunn Warwick, a San Luis Valley Music Legend made his journey to the heavenly kingdom, Thursday morning, January 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife Melva and some of his children.

Linwood, born in Alamosa on April 05, 1935, is survived by his wife Melva Warwick, six children, 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

After graduating from high school in 1953, he received his Bachelor Degree from Adams State College in 1957. His teaching career began in Idaho. After for two-years, he returned to the valley where he taught in La Jara, and studied for and received his Master's Degree. He taught numerous students in LaJara from 1960 and continued to teach for Centauri and the North Conejos Schools from 1964 through 1974. In the fall of 1974, he started to teach at his alma mater-Alamosa Schools. While teaching in Alamosa his band had many accomplishments. He retired from Alamosa in 1994 and from there he spread his music knowledge to Sangre De Cristo schools for another 4 years.

During his years of education, he received several accolades including being inducted into "The Colorado Music Educators Association Hall of Fame" in 2011, and Adams State University Educators Hall of Fame Class of 2016.

He spent a lifetime of teaching students and molding excellent bands, and enjoyed playing in the SLV Big Band, and the Community Band.

He loved music and enjoyed playing his trumpet whenever, and where ever he could.

Lin had other interests also; caring for his family was one of them; he loved to fly fish, and work in the yard. In his later years he liked to sit on his front porch to enjoy the outside and watch the cars go by.
