Leonard Ross Johnson was born in Breckenridge, Texas on October 10, 1936 to Catherine and Lee Roy Johnson. He went to his heavenly home on May 10, 2026 at the age of 89. Leonard served in the United States Army, spending most of his time overseas. He grew up on ranches, becoming the ultimate cowboy, and resumed that life after returning from the military, managing several ranches in his lifetime.

Leonard was an avid hunter and fisherman. He owned and operated JD Enterprises guide and outfitting business for several years packing clients for guided hunts & fishing trips into the Weminuche Wilderness above Creede. He was often seen coming down the trail horseback with his youngest son riding behind his saddle, usually asleep.

After his years of guiding, he went back to his cowboy heritage ranching in Colorado, Kansas and Texas. He spent his last several years living in the cottages at the Homelake Veterans Center.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Emmett, Alvin and Sam. He is survived by his brother Wayne Johnson of Dallas TX, children Karen (Terry) Clark of Del Norte CO, Cindy (Craig) Cotten of Monte Vista CO, Becky Severn of Chester, OK, Drew (Julie) Barnes of Colby KS, Kristi (Greg) Pickett of Perryton TX and Clint (Bobbi) Johnson of Creede CO as well as 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
