Leo R. Varos, a cherished brother, and beloved community member, peacefully passed away on November 22, 2025, in La Jara, Colorado. Born on June 27, 1938, in Taos, New Mexico, to proud parents Aaron and Ida Varos, Leo's zest for life and love for his family shone brightly for 87 years.
Educated at Adams State College, Leo dedicated his life to the noble pursuit of teaching, influencing countless students with his knowledge and kindness. His passion for learning was paralleled by his exceptional skill as a beautician, where he brought joy and confidence to many through his craft.
Leo's range of interests was a testament to his vibrant spirit. He had a particular fondness for the thrill of gambling; bingo nights were enlivened by his enthusiastic presence. His intellectual hunger was satiated through countless books, each page turn reflecting his insatiable curiosity about the world. Artistic expression found a place in Leo's heart as well; he conveyed his creativity through beautiful, thoughtful paintings.
Remembered for his simplicity and virtue, Leo was a pillar of strength and compassion to his family. He is survived by his loving sister Charlene (Bonnie) Romero of Sanford, Colorado, and his devoted brother Dan (Arlene) Varos, also of Sanford. Nieces and nephews Bennette O'Cana, Van Romero, Duane (Amy) Romero, Sidney Varos, Michael Varos, and Lisa (Rick) Salazar, along with their children, will hold dear the memory of their kind and good-hearted uncle. His legacy will also live on through his great-nephews Kevin and Devin, great-nephews Marcos and Zachary, and great nieces Tahlia, Kalee and Ava Salazar, who will forever cherish the moments they spent with him.
Leo was predeceased by his loving parents, Aaron and Ida Varos, and his nephew Donovan Romero, and his sister Arabella Archuleta whose memories remain a comfort to the family.
