Joseph Lee
Parks
Jul 26, 1956 — Oct 9, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Lee Parks, age 70, of Alamosa, Colorado. Joe left this world unexpectedly on October 9, 2026.
Joe was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Hartzel and Edith Parks. As the oldest of three children, he spent his early years in a military family before moving to Colorado Springs in 1965 when his father, a member of the United States Army, was transferred there.
Joe graduated from Harrison High School in Colorado Springs and proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a Gunner's Mate Guns Third Class. Following his honorable discharge in May 1982, he began a career in retail management with Kmart, eventually transferring to Alamosa, Colorado.
After settling in the San Luis Valley, Joe joined Alamosa Sporting Goods, where he became well known for sharing his knowledge and passion for firearms. He trained countless local residents in hunter safety and took great pride in helping others learn responsible firearm use. To say Joe liked guns would be an understatement. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the National Rifle Association, enjoyed sporting clays, and devoted much of his free time to the hobbies he loved.
When Alamosa Sporting Goods closed, Joe went to work for Everything Wireless. He later joined the Rio Grande County Sheriff's Department, where he faithfully served his community until his retirement.
In 2003, Joe met the love of his life, Torie Oglesby. They were married in April 2005 and shared more than two decades of love, laughter, and adventure together. Most recently, they fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking a bucket-list trip to Alaska, creating cherished memories that will forever be treasured.
Joe is survived by his wife, Torie Parks of Alamosa, Colorado; his sister, Deb (Bruce) Porter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and his brother, Glenn Stephen Parks of Tigard, Oregon. He is also survived by his in-laws, Charlie and Pat Chick of Durango, Colorado; brothers-in-law Cory (Crystal) Chick of Durango, Colorado and Chuck (Beth) Chick of Atmore, Alabama; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends throughout the San Luis Valley.
Joe will be remembered for his happy-go-lucky nature, his generous heart, his unmistakable smile, and his infectious laugh. His love for family, friends, country, and community touched countless lives.
In accordance with Joe's wishes, a memorial service will be held at a later date at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.
Joe will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Though he is gone from our sight, his spirit, laughter, and the memories he created will remain in our hearts forever.
