Obituary

Joseph Michael Jordan, a treasure of a man whose laughter and spirited heart brought warmth to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, in Center, Colorado. Born on April 21, 1985, in Del Norte, Colorado, Joseph was a beacon of light from the beginning. The loving son of Michael and Edna Jo (Betenbough) Jordan, he grew within a family environment where love and perseverance were the foundation of everyday life.

Joseph graduated from Alamosa High School in 2006, proudly overcoming the challenges posed by special needs to achieve this significant milestone. He also attended Blue Peaks Developmental Services for many years.

A man of simple pleasures, Joseph was truly himself when sharing a hearty laugh, a trait that proved contagious to all around him. Always ready to find joy in the moment, he had the unique ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary with his huge laugh and bright smile. His kind nature and genuine warmth drew people to him, and he was a source of constant joy.

Passionate about horses, Joseph found solace and strength in the gentle gait of these noble creatures. Therapeutic horsemanship brought a sense of freedom and accomplishment, and he reveled in the connection he felt with each horse he rode.

An enthusiastic food lover, Joseph gleefully anticipated Thanksgiving dinner, his favorite meal, which he celebrated with verve each year surrounded by his loved ones. His presence at the table was as essential as the turkey and dressing, infusing the holiday with extra helpings of love and laughter.

Joseph is cherished in memory by his parents, Michael and Edna Jo, who continue to reside in the family home. His life is also celebrated by his adored aunts and uncles: Trudy (Bill Shue) Silverman, Karen Lofton, and Marla Jordan, along with nine cousins, his special caregiver Darnai McMullen, and a vast network of extended family and friends. Each one blessed with countless memories shared with Joseph—each smile, each laugh, a precious gift. Joseph is preceded in death by his grandparents Watts and Emma Jordan, C.G. and Bernice Betenbough, his aunts and uncles: Vicky (David) Winsauer, John "Jack" Jordan, Gary Lofton, and Glen (Kathy) Betenbough; and his cousin Lee Harrison.

Cremation was performed at the Rogers Family Mortuary Crematory, and a Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Rogers Family Mortuary, at 404 Morris Street, in Monte Vista, Colorado. Contributions in his memory are suggested to Hospice del Valle, 514 Main Street, in Alamosa, Colorado 81101. Joseph's family would like to thank the helpful nurses and staff at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for his care, and to the Blue Peaks Developmental staff for all their dedication and support, as well as the many volunteers that helped with his home therapy.
