Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a beloved husband, father, teacher, mentor, and friend. John Finehout passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 26, after a courageous four-year battle with brain cancer. While his family fought alongside him every step of the way, John is now at peace.

John was an extraordinary man whose kindness, strength, and unwavering spirit touched countless lives. He was the devoted father of Dustin, Talon, and Mason, and the loving husband of his wife, Kelsy. His love for his family was evident in everything he did.

As a special education teacher at Centauri High School, John poured his heart into his students. He believed in each of them, encouraged them to overcome challenges, and served as a mentor who inspired confidence, perseverance, and hope.

Outside of the classroom, John was passionate about martial arts. He trained alongside his friends at Grizzly MMA, where he also enjoyed teaching children the skills and confidence to protect themselves. He dreamed of one day stepping into the cage to compete. John also cherished the outdoors and created lasting memories with his family through camping, fishing, and exploring the beautiful mountains together.

A funeral service honoring John’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa.

For those who wish to support Kelsy and the family during this difficult time, donations may be made through their GoFundMe:
