Obituary

Jesse Robert Booth, 87, passed away peacefully in his own home on July 14, 2023. He was born on September 22, 1935, in Mosca, Colorado, in the family home built by his parents Elijah and Hazel Booth. Jesse was the youngest of nine children where he was called Bobby by close friends and family.

Growing up, Jesse learned the value of hard work and developed a strong work ethic while helping his father on the family farm. He would milk cows and put up hay with teams of horses, understanding that chores had to be done EVERY day. Jesse often reminisced about his mother's cooking, cherishing the delicious meals that sparked his love for cooking and preparing meals with his own family.

During his high school years, Jesse proved himself to be an exceptional athlete at Mosca High School. He excelled in football, basketball, and track, becoming a standout athlete for the purple and gold Mosca Wranglers. Notably, Jesse even drove the school bus while still a high school student.

At a young age, Jesse met his sweetheart and future wife, Lorna Barr. They both loved to dance. They married as teenagers and embarked on a lifelong journey together. They soon welcomed a baby girl, Darlene, and a short time later a son, Robert.

Jesse had a passion for working with his hands, and he started his career as an auto body repair and automobile painter in the 1950s. Later, Jesse was hired as a diesel mechanic at Rio Grande Motorway, where he worked for over 20 years. Jesse's exceptional painting skills were recognized by Rio Grande Motorway, as he painted the entire company fleet in their iconic red and yellow paint scheme in Alamosa. He operated the only heavy wrecker in all of southern Colorado at that time and responded to calls from the highway patrol 24/7, 365 days a year.

In 1979, Jesse and Lorna were sealed together with their children in the Los Angeles Temple for time and all eternity. As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jesse served as a member of the bishopric in Alamosa 3rd ward and high council in the Alamosa Colorado Stake.

In the 1980s, Jesse established JR Booth and Son Trucking, specializing in hauling volcanic rock, hay and grain. He also fulfilled his love for agriculture by purchasing a farm where he dedicated himself to raising hay. Remarkably, Jesse continued farming until just weeks before his passing, staying true to his roots.

Throughout his life, Jesse nurtured diverse interests and hobbies. A friend, Jerry Anderson, introduced him to aviation and he quickly developed a passion for flying, owning several different airplanes throughout his life. He also found joy in ham radios, fishing, hunting, and preparing delicious meals for his loved ones. His homemade ice cream and hot fudge became famous among family and friends.

Jesse was notably known for his unwavering generosity and readiness to help others. He selflessly offered assistance whenever he could, touching the lives of countless individuals. He cherished his family and considered them his greatest love, finding immense joy in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His great sense of humor, jokes and witty one liners that always lightened the mood will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother Hazel, father Elijah, all eight of his siblings, as well as his beloved wife Lorna and daughter Darlene who both passed in 2020.

Jesse is survived by his nephew and closest friend, born two weeks apart and raised as brothers, Eddie (Joanna) Harrison of Indian Beach, FL; brother-in-law Bobby (Diana) Barr, sisters-in-law Donna (Ray) Parnaby and Nancy Moore; son Robert Clay Booth and wife Terri of Alamosa and their children Craig (Kaitlin) Booth, and daughters Maizee and Remee of Pueblo; Jerree (Mitch) Canty and children Baylon, Daxton, Knoxley, and Blakeley of Sanford; Son-in- law Gary Datkuliak (husband of Darlene) of Parker, and daughter Katy Datkuliak of Lewiston, ID; Granddaughter Laura (Tim) Gifford and son Owen of Lewiston, ID; Grandson Jesse Hildebrandt of Denver; Granddaughter Elizabeth (Justin) Guhl and children Noah, Madi, and Emma of Kiowa, CO as well as numerous family and friends.

Jesse Booth will be fondly remembered as a loving, selfless, hardworking, and charitable person by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a skilled fixer who could tackle any challenge with ease. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Jesse built his own home where he spent his final days, and he has now returned to be reunited with his daughter Darlene and beloved sweetheart Lorna Booth.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Sanford Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. in respect of his wife Lorna's graveside services that were required during the pandemic.
