Obituary

Longtime Mosca resident James Steven "Jim" McCloskey, 67, died August 30, 2023 at the Pikes Peak Hospice at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.

Jim was born in Alamosa, Colorado on June 1, 1956 to John Kenneth McCloskey and Elva Elaine (Wolf) McCloskey. He married the love of his life, Loretta Jean Loman on march 29, 1975 in Center, Colorado.

Jim worked for many years in law enforcement for the Alamosa Sheriff's Office and most recently for the Saguache Sheriff's Office where he served as Undersheriff until his retirement in November of 2022.

He loved spending time in the mountains four-wheeling, fishing, and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed exploring old mines and relics. Jim served as the President of the Amateur Radio Club SARA. He was a true patriot that loved his country, his God, and his faith.

Jim is survived by his wife Loretta McCloskey of the family home; his nieces and nephews: Joetta (Clint) Kerrick of Mosca, CO, Clayton (Kathy) Loman of Del Norte, CO, Michael (Leah) Loman of Alamosa, CO, Debbie (Mike) Menicucci of Corrales, N.M., Kerry (Daronda) Garrett of Williamsburg, N.M., Jack (Debbie) Garrett of Lancaster, California, Chris (Amber) Crown of Center, CO, Jr. (Kenna) Jordan of Las Vegas, NV; his sister Darlene (Danny) Garrett of Elephant Butte, N.M., and his sister-in-law Arlene Loman of Monte Vista, CO; as well as numerous friends.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents John McCloskey and Elva McCloskey, his brothers Joe McCloskey and Patrick McCloskey, and his in-laws Eugene & Dorothy Loman, brother-in-law Travis Loman.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the American Legion. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery. Contributions in his memory are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association and may be made online at www.alz.org and click on "Donate".
