James Anthony
Lucero
April 26, 1963 – March 16, 2026
It is with heartfelt warmth that we remember James Anthony Lucero, fondly known as Jimmy, who graced this world with his adventuristic spirit and friendly smile from April 26, 1963, until his peaceful passing on March 16, 2026. Jimmy was a true Colorado native, with the mountains of Alamosa witnessing his first breath, and the serene landscapes of Colorado Springs being present for his last.
A son of the beautiful San Luis Valley, Jimmy was born to the late Edward Lucero and Angie Jiron Lucero. His journey was shaped not only by the love he received from his parents but also by the cherished moments shared with his siblings, especially his late brothers, Edward Lucero, Jr. and infant Francis Lucero, and his late son James Lucero. Jimmy's legacy continues to thrive through his beloved children: Leticia "Mona" Lucero, DeAnna Lucero, Steven (Samantha) Garcia, Michael (Hanah) Garcia, and his step-son, Eric Ramirez. Each of them a reflection of his generous nature. The twinkle in his eye was mirrored in the laughter and playfulness of his grandchildren—Nathaniel, Natalie, Noah, Hailey, Jade, Jazlynn, Frank, Deyon, Grace, and Isaiah—each a star shining bright in his vast sky.
Beyond his immediate kin, his brother Donald (Sophia) Lucero, his step-brother Paul Dominguez, step-sister Antoinette Dominguez, and a host of nieces and nephews—Angel, Johnny, Daniel, Jeff, Kevin, Eric, and Chasmine—will carry forward the countless happy memories of tinkering, taste-testing his famous green chili, and cheering for the Denver Broncos. For those who sought automotive care, Jimmy's talent and know-how were never in doubt. In 1985, he embarked on an entrepreneurial journey with his brother, establishing the reputable Alamosa Car Care Center, a testament to his hard work and dedication to the community.
Jimmy found solace in the revving engines of Harley's, the polished curves of hotrods, and the camaraderie that came with sharing a good beer. He was a classic rock enthusiast, each chord resonating with the chapters of his life. His culinary skills, particularly his exceptional green chili, will be a fond memory on the taste buds and in the hearts of his family and friends.
Above all, the word 'handy' encapsulates so much of what Jimmy was—always ready to lend a hand or fix what was broken. His adventurous spirit took him on many journeys, but it was his intrinsic friendliness that built bridges and kept the bonds strong with everyone lucky enough to cross his path.
A recitation of the Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026, followed by a Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, both at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Committal services will follow the Funeral Mass in the New Conejos Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa.
