Iris Ruth
Birdsey
January 27, 1947 – April 1, 2026
Iris Ruth Sword Birdsey, 79, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, in Cordes Lakes, Arizona. She was born on January 27, 1947, in Alamosa, Colorado, and spent her life deeply rooted in the San Luis Valley and her beloved Creede, Colorado.
Iris was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Rocky Shane Birdsey (Susan); her grandchildren, Cole (Stasha) Birdsey and Kaitlin Birdsey; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Brennand Birdsey.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, whom she missed dearly. Their love was enduring, and her family finds comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.
Iris was a longtime member of the Creede community and contributed many years of dedicated work to the Mineral County Miner when its offices were located in Creede. She was also a proud Jayceette, giving her time and energy to community service and connection.
She found her greatest joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life—camping trips with Rocky and her grandchildren, caring for her animals, and surrounding herself with family. Iris loved fiercely and without hesitation. She was known for her honesty and strong spirit—never one to hold back her thoughts, especially when she felt someone needed guidance or correction. That authenticity, paired with her deep loyalty and love, made her unforgettable.
Iris was an important part of the Creede family, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
At Iris's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Creede Animal Shelter.
Her legacy lives on in the strength of her family, the memories she created, and the love she gave so freely. Rogers Family Mortuary is on care of arrangements. To leave online condolences, tributes and words of comfort for Iris' family please visit her obituary at www.RogersFunerals.com.
