La Jara resident Helen Joy Hutchins, 84, died October 7, 2023 at the Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado.

She was born on August 13, 1939 in Alamosa Colorado to her parents Jesse Donald Hutchins and Grace (Shawcroft) Hutchins.

Helen was employed as a Beautician, an Elementary School Teacher in Sanford and La Jara, and was a town clerk in La Jara. Helen's hobbies and interests included yard work, flower arranging, reading and word search puzzles. Helen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and especially enjoyed teaching children in Junior Sunday School.

Helen is survived by nieces; Dawn Carbutt of Antonito, Cris (David) Baker of La Jara, Teri Trent of Manassa, Toni Martin of Manassa; Nephews Kelly (Carol) Cornum of La Jara, Paul (Michelle) Cornum of La Jara, Donald (Marie) Martin of Jordan River, Utah.

Helen was preceded in death by parents, Siblings-Earl Duane "Nebby" Hutchins, Elma Grace "June"(Gale) Martin, Ruth Elaine (Monte) Cornum; a nephew Forrest (Judy) Martin and a niece Lisa Cornum.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 3:00p.m. at Sanford Cemetery. With grave dedication by Paul Cornum.
