Helen Gurule, 72, a lifelong resident of Conejos, Colorado, passed away on June 16th, 2026 at her home peacefully. She was born in Alamosa, CO, to Elena Vigil and Frutoso Vigil.

She was the loving partner of Dave Roybal, they shared 20+ years of partnership together.

She was known as a homebody and enjoyed spending time at home and visiting Amisad with her friends, where she found joy in playing bingo, making crafts, and getting to know new people. She enjoyed cooking beans, chili, and papas for her family and loved playing cards to pass the time.

Helen survived by her sisters Marvine Large (Carlos Sr) and Ruby Sandoval (Ted Sandoval); her children, Robert Gurule (Ellie Gurule), Anna Gurule, Johnnie Gurule (Melissa Madril); her grand daughters Ashli Stephanie, Destiny, Sierra, Kaitlynn, Heaven, and Kayli; as well as her two great grandsons Atticus and Koa.

She is preceded in death by her parents Elena and Frutoso, her lifelong partner Dave Roybal, her beloved granddaughter Destiny, and her siblings Alfred, Melvin, Mercy, Gloria, Daliah, and Frank.

Helen will be dearly missed and remembered for her story telling, her loving nature, her competitiveness, and her quick wit humor.

Rosary service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Conejos, Colorado on August 14th at 7:00pm. Her Funeral will also be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Conejos, Colorado on August 15th at 10:00am., followed by her burial at LaJara Cemetery.
