Obituary

Heather Lynn Ray, an embodiment of creativity and adventurous spirit, departed from this world on May 28, 2025, in Alamosa, Colorado. Born in the bustling city of New York on August 18, 1971, she later became a cherished member of the Alamosa community, where she moved in 1997 and established deep roots with her family and friends.

Heather had an array of talents that earned her the affectionate nickname "Heather of all trades." Heather's love for crafting was evident in the way she turned bottle hunting into an art form, creating unique pieces that reflected her ability to see beauty in the simple and overlooked. Her hands were rarely still as she painted, colored, and wove her imagination into jewelry that sparkled with her inner light.

Heather's passion for reading transported her through countless worlds within the pages of books, yet she found equal wonder in nature's own narratives, especially her fascination with the stark beauty of dead trees. These silent sentinels of the forest seemed to speak to Heather's soul, inspiring her to capture their essence in her artwork.

Beyond her artistic pursuits, Heather's life was grounded in the love she shared with her family. Her devotion to her husband, Mark Ray, was a testament to the strength of their partnership and the joy they found in their shared interests. Her son Colin Drew Simpson of Iowa, sister Gretchen Hibshman Nelson of Crestone, CO, and her mother Enid (Tom) Malecek, her ex-stepfather Jeff Hibshman of whom held a special place in her heart, sister Breanna Canavarro of California, and cousin Sara May Wilson of Ohio. Heather now joins her late father David Paul Sprowl, with whom she is preceded in death.

Adventurous, loving, and relentlessly creative, Heather's memory will be carried forward in the hearts of all who knew her. The legacy of her laughter, the joy she found in life's treasures, and her ability to create beauty from the mundane will endure. Heather's story—one penned with vibrancy and love—may have reached its last chapter, but the pages she filled will continue to inspire and bring solace to those she has left behind.
