La Jara resident, Gloria Florence Chavez, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, in Colorado Springs, CO, at the age of 99. Born on June 3, 1926, Gloria's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her passionate devotion to her family.

Gloria's life was marked by her loving nature and her innate ability to make everyone around her feel cherished. She was a Christian who lived her faith through her actions, always putting others before herself. Her family was the center of her universe, and she poured her love into every meal she prepared, every trip she took, and every moment she spent with them.

She is survived by her adoring children, Gregory "James" Cantu of Romeo, CO, Chris (Debra) Chavez of Longmont, CO, and Bernadette (Jim) Garcia of Pagosa Springs, CO. Gloria's legacy continues through her 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild , who will carry her spirit and love forward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Marie Lopes, her sons Mark Cantu and Lewis Chavez, both of her husbands, Lafayette Cantu and Albert Chavez, and all her siblings, being the last living of her brothers and sisters.

Gloria's zest for life was evident in her love for cooking, which was more than a hobby—it was a way of connecting with others. She was famous for her generous spirit, always cooking for an army, ensuring that no one ever left her home hungry. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where laughter, stories, and the aroma of delicious food were always abundant.

Her adventurous spirit led her to enjoy camping, fishing, and traveling, creating countless cherished memories with friends and family. Gloria's presence was a source of joy and comfort, and her home was a hub of warmth and hospitality.

Those who knew Gloria will remember her as the epitome of love and selflessness. Her passion for life and her unwavering support of her loved ones will be deeply missed. Gloria's impact on the world was profound, and her memory will be treasured forever by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we bid farewell to Gloria Florence Chavez, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart that generously loved. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will be a blessing to all.

There will be a visitation on Friday, September 12, 2025 beginning at 9 a.m. followed by a recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. and the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. all at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Capulin. Burial will follow the mass at the Capulin cemetery.
