Gilbert Guadalupe Medina Sr., 91, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, in Monte Vista, Colorado. He was born on August 24, 1935, in Center, Colorado, and was a longtime resident of the San Luis Valley.

Lupe worked as a rancher in San Luis, Colorado, where he spent many years working the land and building a life centered around his family and community. He married the love of his life, Loyola Agatha Medina, on May 20, 1962, in San Luis, Colorado. They shared 64 years of marriage together and remained devoted to one another throughout their lives.

Lupe was a man of strong faith and cherished the simple things in life. He read his Bible every day and enjoyed playing his guitar, playing pool, ranching, and watching the Denver Nuggets. Above all, he treasured spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lupe was also recognized during Hispanic Culture Month for his talent in singing and writing versitos in Spanish, a tradition and talent that brought joy to those around him.

Lupe is survived by his beloved wife, Loyola Agatha Medina; his three children, Gilbert (Rachel) Medina Jr., Luanne (Andrew) Torres, and Rudy (Liza) Medina; his grandchildren, Danny Solis, Lydia Hess, Violet Martinez, Andres (Lashonda) Torres, Lucus (Rachael) Torres, Alyssia Torres, David Medina, Matthew Medina, and Isabel Contreras; and his sister, Maria “Nie” Chavez.

He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Daniella, Matthew, Ami, Andrew, Mason, AJ, TJ, Karsynn, Maverick, Juliette, Declan, Oakley, Lyla, and Logan, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Lupe was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo Medina and Senaida Medina; his brother, Cory (Lucy) Medina; his brother, Jose Elfido; his sister, Tiola Vialpando and other family members who went before him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 18, 2026, at the Wellness Center in Del Norte, Colorado, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
