Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garry Newell Dix, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who left us peacefully on May 27, 2026, at the age of 85. Garry was born on February 18, 1941, in Fort Morgan, Co, and spent his life cultivating the land and nurturing his family in Colorado. To his close family and friends he was affectionally known as Nudge (Noodge), a nickname he earned in early childhood.

Garry dedicated his career to farming, specializing in potatoes, vegetables, and barley, and was known for his exceptional work ethic and deep respect for agriculture. His expertise did not go unrecognized; he was honored with the Coors Company Grower of the Year Award, a testament to his commitment and passion for the land.

As a long-time member of the Carmel Volunteer Fire Department, Garry also devoted himself to the safety and well-being of his community, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. In addition to his professional achievements, Garry had a zest for life that extended beyond the fields. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending his free time boating with family and friends at Lake Powell, and creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever.

Garry is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Dix, his loving daughters, Rhonda (Carl) Benton, Becky (Zach) Margolis, Laurie Schmit, Amy (Chris) Boren, and his sister Judy Barttelbort (Ron). He is further survived by his grandchildren Katie (Zane) Little, David Scheuermann (Gianna Bell), Abbie Boren (Matthew Vanderwerff), C.J. Benton, Ethan Boren (Mahlia Glass), Bella Rulon, Tate Schmit, Natalie Margolis, Jacob Margolis, and Kala Thompson. Additionally, his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Newcomer and Cooper Scheuermann and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Garry is preceded in death by his loving parents, Garrison C. Dix and Marjorie Cowen Dix, his brother Darrel Dix, his sister Winifred Jane Dix, and his in-laws Howard and Violet Wiseman

Funeral services in honor of Garry will take place Saturday, June 20th at 10:00 AM at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa, CO, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life, share stories, and find comfort in each other's presence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Garry Newell Dix will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the kindness and love he shared with others. He leaves a legacy of hard work, dedication, and a profound appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. May he rest in peace.
