Fred D.
Espinoza
April 23, 1953 – December 14, 2025
Fred D. Espinoza, Jr., 72, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, in Alamosa, Colorado. Born on April 23, 1953, in Tooele, Utah, Fred's gentle spirit were nurtured by the loving care of his parents, Fred Espinoza, Sr., and Esther Trujillo Espinoza. Fred's journey commenced in the tranquility of Colorado, but his heart found its true home when it joined with Sylvia Vigil, to whom he was joyfully married in 1981. She survives him in the family home in La Jara, CO.
Their unwavering partnership of 44 years was built on shared joys, dreams, and the mutual love and respect unique to soulmates. Fred was the beloved anchor of a family that includes his cherished children Nancy and Sara Espinoza of Lakewood, CO, and his step-daughter Michelle Vigil. His formidable legacy continues to thrive through his siblings, Russ and his spouse Merlin Espinoza of Antonito, CO, and Teresa Jensen of California. The branches of his family tree extend to his eleven adored grandchildren, as well as seven treasured great-grandchildren. His memory will be further cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a multitude of friends who all felt the touch of his kindness.
Fred served proudly in the United States Army as a Specialist. The communities of Denver and the San Luis Valley reflect the imprint of Fred's industrious contributions through his work in label manufacturing alongside his brother and later his dedicated service at Teledyne, where he crafted dental-related items. His colleagues not only respected his work ethic but were also blessed by his companionship.
A man of many interests and talents, Fred's lived experiences were as rich as the mountain air he so loved. He possessed an unbreakable bond with nature that was most evident when he spent time in the mountains, with fishing rod in hand or simply enjoying the solemnity of a family camping trip. His carefree moments were albeit rare were often spent at a casino, indulging in the occasional gamble, joyously surrounded by friends and family alike.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, his step-son Ronnie Vigil, and his siblings: Jerry, Larry, and Albert Espinoza.
A Recitation of the Rosary will be held 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara on Monday, December 29, 2025. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery with military honors.
