Longtime Alamosa resident Frank Alfonso Mestas, 86, passed away on January 23, 2025, at San Luis Care Center in Alamosa. He was born on April 7, 1938, in Los Cerritos, CO to Jose Adolfo and Rosita Mestas.
Frank is survived by his children: Frank Leroy (Ruby) Mestas of Chama, NM, Brenda Jimenez of Brighton, CO, Gilbert R. (Graciela) Mestas of Las Vegas, NV, Beverly Mestas of Alamosa, CO, Neives Mestas (Luis Salazar) of Moriarty, NM; grandchildren: Desirae (Esmer) Martinez, Brianna Mestas (Asher Vigil), Sarah Jimenez, Daniel (Lara) Jimenez, Jeremy (Jessica) Mestas, Sean (Kalina) Mestas, Natalie Mestas, Alfred Isaac Petross, Naylani Salazar, Leoniyah Salazar; great-grandchildren: Aiden, Emma, Isley, Noah, DJ Jimenez, Abram, Maggie, Evan, Dean, Iris Mestas.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Jose Adolfo and Rosita Mestas, grandson Gilbert F. Mestas, son-in-law Armando Jimenez, 2 sisters: Cecelia Casias, and Lucy Gesaman, and brother Felix Mestas.
Frank was an Army veteran and served as an MP while stationed in Hawaii. He took pride in his job and seldom missed a day of work. He worked for Montgomery Ward for several years; he retired from Alamosa School District as a school bus driver and then continued to drive a school bus for Alamosa Head Start. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing bingo at the Care Center and watching his favorite team the Denver Broncos. Frank always had a good sense of humor and enjoyed playing pranks.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Regina Lucero and Loni Lopez from the San Luis Care Center for all their kindness and thoughtfulness towards our father. We appreciate everything you did for him.
The recitation of the Rosary will be on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with the Memorial Mass to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, inurnment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery.
