Frances E. Lujan, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and dedicated community member, passed away on May 23, 2026, at the age of 84 due to natural causes, in her cherished hometown of Monte Vista, Colorado.
Born on January 20, 1942, Frances embodied kindness, nurturing, and a zest for life that left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Frances was married to the love of her life, Luis Toby Lujan on September 6, 1960 at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Antonito, Colorado. They were married 52 years when he passed away in 2014. Frances, affectionately known as "the WIC lady," devoted her career to educating and supporting families, particularly children, through her role with the state government. Her passion for helping others extended beyond her profession; she cared deeply for her own family. As a loving mother to her daughters, Veronica Dilley, Debra Javalera, Donna Lujan, and Erika Martinez, Frances found joy in creating a warm and loving home filled with laughter and support. She was also a proud grandmother to Charles, Kalista, Shania, Victor, Esteban, Angel, Janetzi, Victoria, Victoria, Karla, Andrea, Cody, and numerous great-grandkids who brought her endless joy.
Frances had an unquenchable love for the outdoors, particularly fishing, which allowed her to connect with nature's beauty. She found immense satisfaction in her garden, where her favorite flowers, the hollyhocks, bloomed vibrantly, reflecting her nurturing spirit. Frances treasured the moments spent with family and friends, cultivating relationships that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
Frances is survived by her daughters and sister Irene Gomez, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss her deeply. Frances was preceded in death by her spouse Luis Lujan, and parents Antonio Gomez, Aurora Martinez Gomez and her daughter Valerie Lujan.
A public viewing will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on May 30, 2026, beginning at 8:30 AM, allowing friends and family to pay their respects. The Rosary will follow at 9:30 AM, leading into a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Frances will find her final resting place at Los Valdezes Cemetery, Following the Mass.
Frances E. Lujan will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
