Longtime Alamosa resident Evelyn L. Wolf, 95, died August 2, 2021 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa.
Evelyn's life began in Byers, Colorado on September 13, 1925, the proud daughter of Ralph Newton Mitchell and Leta May (Biggs) Mitchell. She married the love of her life George Alfred Wolf in Alamosa, Colorado on December 30, 1946. They enjoyed 69 years together until his death in 2016.
Evelyn loved to work in her garden raising flowers and vegetables and planted Spruce Trees on First Street near her home. She was a very giving person and always helped her husband on their ranch and in his work by feeding a crew of about 20 young men while they worked in custom hay cutting. Evelyn truly loved to cook and bake. She made several wedding cakes, candies and goodies in which she would freeze so she always had something fresh for folks to take with them. She never let anyone leave her home hungry. Holidays and family dinners were her time to shine, she loved having everyone over and especially getting on the floor and playing with the young kids. Evelyn was a particular person and was well kept, which helped her in her bookkeeping duties. She and George traveled to many places by car, both reliable and unreliable, by bus, airplane, train and ship. She documented her travels with photos and organized them in numerous scrapbooks.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 48 years and held numerous positions and participated in various activities within the organization. She worked to bring the first Girl Scout Troop to Alamosa in the 1950's. She was also instrumental in organizing Moffat School reunions.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Janis (Gary) Rutgers of Alamosa; her step-grandchildren Julie (Dale) Adams, Jim (Gina) Rutgers, Verla (Scott) Honeycutt and Eva (Matt) Sinclair, all of Alamosa; her sister Bertha Dobson of Denver, CO and her brother Larry (Ann) Mitchell of Woodland Park, CO; her sister-in-law Pauline Mitchell of Greeley, CO; her nieces and nephews Lavonne Palmer, Darrell Dobson, Lenora Brooks, Kent Mitchell, Randy Mitchell, Rodney Mitchell, and Mark Mitchell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband George and her brother Robert Mitchell of Moffat.
