La Jara- Eva E. Mondragon
Eva E. Mondragon, a pillar of love and faith, peacefully passed away on September 4, 2024, at the age of 87, in La Jara, Colorado with her family by her side. Born on September 14, 1936, in Antonito, Colorado, Eva's life was a testament of her passionate and caring spirit.
Eva's journey began as the cherished daughter of Carlos and Viola Garcia, in the small town of Antonito, where she also completed her education, graduating from Antonito High School in 1954. Her devotion to her faith was evident through her active membership at Our Lady of The Valley Catholic Church, where she served and worshipped throughout her life.
Eva was the loving matriarch of a large and vibrant family. She was the beloved wife of the late Onesimo Mondragon Jr., and together they forged a legacy of love and dedication that was felt by those who knew them. Eva's love and guidance will be deeply missed by her children Roman Onesimo "Sonny" Mondragon III, Rick Mondragon, Delbert Mondragon, Lynnae (Steve) Shawcroft, Matthew Mondragon, Ed (Stephanie) Mondragon, and Lynette Crowther, her siblings-in-law Criselda (John) Cole, Jacqueline (Larry) Hartman, Teresa (Jon) Stahl, Wilma Owens, Gustavo Mondragon, Atilano (Leticia Ochoa) Mondragon, and Maria (Rich) Ricillio. Her warmth and wisdom will continue to live on through her 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Onesimo Mondragon Jr.; her mother Viola Garcia; her son-in-law Ron Crowther; her great-grandson Link Tyler Bradshaw; her sister Ellen Chacon; her brother Eugene Garcia; and her in-laws R.O. & Emma Mondragon. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and their memories were cherished deeply.
Eva's home was a hub of activity and affection, especially known for her legendary Sunday dinners, where her enchiladas were the star of the show. Her culinary skills were matched only by her capacity to bring people together, making every guest feel like part of the family.
Beyond her family and faith, Eva found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for hummingbirds and Betty Boop reflected her appreciation for beauty and her youthful spirit. These small joys were a reflection of Eva's ability to find happiness in the everyday.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 9:30 until 10:30 with a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 and a memorial mass of Christian burial to be held at 11:00 at Our Lady of The Valley Catholic Church in La Jara, Colorado. Burial will follow the mass at La Jara Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Parish for the upgrade of a new sound system at Our Lady of The Valley Catholic Church.
She often reminded us, "I am leaving everything I have to my birds."
