Obituary

Elsie Dorraine Gasseling, known as "Dorraine", a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, departed this life on May 5, 2026, at the age of 84 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa. Born on December 9, 1941, to Lyle Speer and Betty McKinstry Speer, Dorraine was a beacon of warmth and kindness in all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Dorraine married her devoted husband, Clement "Clem" Gasseling, on August 14, 1961. Together, they celebrated more than 64 years of a loving partnership, nurturing a family built on love and shared experiences. She is survived by her husband, Clem, her devoted daughters, Karen Gasseling and Susan Kemp, as well as her cherished siblings, Kathleen Duncan, Dale Speer, and Bradley Speer; and her granddaughter Sarah Kemp. Her legacy will continue in the hearts of her family and all those she touched throughout her life. Dorraine was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Michael Gasseling.

A dedicated educator, Dorraine devoted many years to Early Education, where she taught Pre-school and Kindergarten at the Moffat Schools, and also played a vital role in heading up the after-school programs. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom, as she later served as the Manager for the Saguache County Museum, where she shared her love for learning and culture with the community.

An avid reader and a talented artist, Dorraine found joy in painting and cross-stitching. Her artistic pursuits were a source of inspiration and delight, bringing beauty into her life and the lives of those around her.

A Celebration of Life gathering and Taco Party will be held in memory of Dorraine at a date and time to be determined. Family and friends are invited to share in the celebration of her life and legacy, honoring the profound impact she made on all who knew her. She was laid to rest privately in the Saguache Cemetery in Saguache, Colorado.
