Eleanor Sista
Espinoza
August 8, 1938 – June 3, 2024
Sanford- Eleanor Espinoza
Eleanor Sista Gutierrez Espinoza, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, in Pueblo, Colorado. Born on August 8, 1938, in Alamosa, Colorado, Eleanor's life was a tapestry of love, service, and dedication to her cherished family and friends.
Eleanor is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Arthur L. Espinoza, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Their union, sealed at the Salt Lake Temple in 1965, was the cornerstone of a family that grew to include their children, Reyes (Arthur) Martinez, Arthur Espinoza Jr., Berna (Marlin) Hostetter, Delores Tolbert and Regina (Frank) Valdez. Eleanor's loving presence will also be deeply missed by her siblings, Margaret Trujillo, Tillie Lucero, Gloria Duran, and Fred Gutierrez. She leaves behind a legacy that spans generations, blessed with 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Eleanor now joins her heavenly family, reuniting with her grandparents who raised her. Caprio and Reyes Gutierrez, her parents, Joe and Dolores Gutierrez, her daughter Dolores Tolbert, two grandchildren, Chanci and Blade Espinoza, and numerous siblings.
During her loving and committed marriage with Arthur, they served together as missionaries for their church and as group leaders at the La Jara nursing home where they ensured each individual was nurtured and loved. Her twenty years working in family history with the extraction program were a reflection of her compassion and eagerness to serve those in need. Eleanor's love for genealogy was more than a pastime- it was the lens through which she viewed the world. Her dedication extended to the young minds of her local primary and nursery schools, where she was a wellspring of wisdom and love. Eleanor's nurturing spirit shone brightly as she adopted the role of a protector for the underdog.
Eleanor's creative soul blossomed in her hobbies, which served both as an expression of her love for beauty and as acts of stewardship towards the community of Sanford. An avid quilter, Eleanor poured her heart into intricate patterns and designs, stitching warmth and comfort into every creation. Her bountiful garden stood as a testament to her nurturing care, and her crafts highlighted her resourcefulness and ingenuity. A pioneer of recycling, Eleanor transformed used tires into blossoming flowers long before sustainability became a household term. Her tireless efforts to maintain the cleanliness of her town were acts of silent service that spoke volumes of her commitment to the environment. She relished her walks, and filled her beautiful yard with the rocks she collected, remnants of her mountain explorations that sparked joy.
To say Eleanor was creative, loving, and faith-filled woman would only scratch the surface of her character. These qualities were but a few threads in the rich fabric of her being.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 9:00 to 9:45 with a funeral service at 10:00 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sanford First Ward. Burial will follow services at the Sanford Cemetery.
