Edna E.
Martinez
May 31, 1929 – October 6, 2025
Edna E. Martinez, aged 96, peacefully passed away on October 6th, 2025, in Alamosa, Colorado, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born on May 31st, 1929, in the historic town of Fort Garland, Colorado, Edna was a beacon of kindness and faith throughout her life.
She was the cherished daughter of Elias J. Martinez and Antonia Martinez, both of whom preceded her in death. Edna also bid farewell, before her own departure, to siblings Roberta Rybal, Elias Martinez, and Elva D. Alire, who along with several dear nieces and nephews, including Mark Aragon, Myra Aragon, Larry Alire, Marvin Martinez, Jeanine Martinez, and her great nephews Tyler Fernandez, and Evan Fernandez have left this world before her.
Edna is fondly remembered and survived by her sisters, Carolyn Gonzales of Amalia, New Mexico, and Alice Aragon of Alamosa, Colorado. Her bond with her niece Pamela (Jimmie) Romero of Amalia, was exceedingly special, with Pamela considering her more a second mother than an aunt. Edna's lifelong friend, Evelyn (Leonard) Smith and their son Jerry, stood by her through thick and thin, their friendship was as steadfast as sisterhood. She also enjoyed spending numerous hours with her special friend Kathleen Ramirez and her son Cody.
Throughout her life, Edna was a tower of selflessness and devotion. She worked tirelessly, not in the pursuit of personal gain, but to uplift those around her. As an active volunteer with the Catholic Daughters, she dedicated countless hours to serving her community and deepening her faith. Prayer was a vital part of her daily life, and she often spoke of the peace and strength she drew from her closeness to God.
The kindest of souls, Edna found joy in the simplicity of being with family and friends. Her love of travel took her to many beautiful countrysides, always appreciating the wonders of God's creation. A church women's organization recognized her selfless contributions, honoring her with an award that celebrated her volunteer efforts, though she never sought recognition.
Edna's life was a testament to the beauty of faith in action. She was kind, selfless, and exceptionally faith-filled. Her presence could light up a room, and her unwavering positivity was infectious. Edna's legacy lives on not only in her surviving relatives but also in the countless lives she touched through her benevolent spirit.
