Obituary

Longtime Alamosa resident Doris June Terpstra, 99, died July 14, 2023 at her home in Alamosa, surrounded by family and under hospice care.

June was born in Denver, Colorado on February 2, 1924 to Pete Westenburg and Jeannette Bylsma Westenburg. She married the love of her life, Leonard John Terpstra on March 15, 1945 in Alamosa, Colorado.

June worked for many years as a Clerk for K-Mart in Alamosa and was a homemaker. She also worked at the school cafeteria. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. June especially loved fishing. She enjoyed Find a Word puzzles and doing jigsaw puzzles. Her children fondly remember doing puzzles with mom when the weather outside was bad. June liked to send cards to people and loved to get the mail. She would spend many hours writing letters to loved ones and friends.

June is survived by her children Marie Rusk of Colorado Springs, CO, Don (Barb) Terpstra of Alamosa, CO, Pat (Ron) Rinebarger of Monte Vista, CO, Leona (Ken Bray) Martinez of New Mexico, Gloria (Clarence) Sanchez of Alamosa, Betty (Jack) Cochran of Monte Vista, CO, Madelyn Langstraat of Lynden, WA, Richard Terpstra of Superior, CO, and Kenneth (De Ann) Terpstra of Highlands Ranch, CO; her sister Mary Lou Hof of Escalon, CA; as well as 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

June is preceded in death by her parents, her grandchildren Billey Albert and Tracy Rinebarger, her brothers William James Westenburg, Keith Louis Westenburg, and Charles Edward Westenburg, her son-in-law Mark Langstraat, son-in-law Tom Rusk, and two infant great-grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church in Alamosa.
