Obituary

Doris Mae Dean, loved for her faith-filled heart and kind spirit, peacefully passed away on November 7, 2025, at the age of 81 in Sanford, Colorado. Born on October 21, 1944, in Alamosa, Colorado, to the late John Harry Broyles and Lois Harrieta Hicks Broyles, Doris was a beacon of loving light to everyone around her throughout her life.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Colorado and an alumna of Sanford High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and connections that she cherished deeply. Her dedication to her faith was evident as an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she contributed significantly to her church community's growth and well-being.

Gifted with her hands and a love for music, Doris played the accordion and dulcimer with fervor, sharing her passion and joy with others whenever the opportunity arose. Her other deep-set interest lay in genealogy, which she pursued enthusiastically, frequenting the Family Service Center in La Jara to explore and document her family's history. This pursuit was more than a hobby — it was Doris's way of preserving the legacy of her ancestors for future generations to cherish.

Doris's love for the great outdoors shone brightly through her fondness for fishing, a pastime she indulged in as often as possible, especially on the family property in Fox Creek. Her connection with nature and the peace it gave her was something she always hoped to share with those she loved.

Predominantly a family woman, Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Terry Broyles. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Todd (Christina) Dean, of Sanford; her adored granddaughter, Melissa Ann; and her caring sisters, Wanda Flack of Queen Creek, AZ, and Priscilla (William) Reynolds of Bensen, AZ. Her presence will be sorely missed, but the impact she left on her family and community will echo for generations.

A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Fox Creek Cemetery.
