Obituary

A faithful and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church Don Hermanson was taken to his heavenly home on December 13, 2025.

Don was born into the loving family of Mayme and Gilbert Hermanson on July 29, 1933, in London, Minnesota.

Beloved husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Carole, and two daughters, Lynn Stagner (Pete) of Moffat, Colorado, and Ingrid Miller (Robert) of Dixon, California.

His sunny smile, sense of humor and curiosity brightened the lives of those around him. His passion for learning and his adventurous spirit for travel guided his life.

After attending Austin Jr. College, he joined the United States Army and became a Hungarian translator stationed in Frankfurt Germany. After his tour of duty, he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota. He started his teaching career with the Department of Defense in Puerto Rico and then taught in Japan and Libya.

Upon returning to the United States he met and married Carole Gilbert on Dec. 27, 1964. As a family they enjoyed many activities such as skiing, sailing, swimming, fishing, camping and visiting family and friends.

Don followed his passion for education at the University of Iowa, Claremont Colleges, University of California at Riverside, California, completing his masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Wyoming.

In 1971 he accepted a position at Adams State University where he taught in the Department of Education until he retired in 1993. He was a contributing author to several textbooks.

The travel bug struck again in 1983 when with Lynn & Ingrid they traveled to London, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece and Istanbul which was a great family adventure. In 1987 they traveled to Hong Kong and China which was just opening up to tourists.

Upon retirement, Don and Carole were blessed with many fascinating trips, visiting 70 countries and all 7 continents.

Our family is especially grateful for the loving care he received by the special caregivers at the San Luis Care Center, The Bridge and Visiting Angels during the last years of his life.

A celebration of Life service will be held in the future.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to Trinity Lutheran School, ASU or Doctors Without Borders.

Rogers Family Mortuary is in care of arrangements. To leave online condolences, tributes and words of comfort for Don's family please visit www.RogersFunerals.com.
